Nike, Lululemon Athletica, Under Armour and Columbia sportswear are among the growing number of retailers announcing the closure of their stores in the United States and other markets, in an effort to minimise the spread of The coronavirus.

The closure of Nike stores extends to Canada, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand, from March 16 to 27. According to Reuters, it will continue normal operations at stores in South Korea, Japan, most of China and in many other countries.

“We are taking additional steps in other Nike-managed facilities, including the option to work from home,” the U.S. sportswear firm said in a statement.

Columbia, Under Armour and Lululemon are closing all North America stores for two weeks, and Lululemon said will also close its Europe stores.

“The health and safety of our employees, consumers and the communities where we live and work is paramount to us,” said Tim Boyle, president and CEO of Columbia. “During this temporary closure we are also offering catastrophic paid leave to our employees most affected by this virus.”
