Puma and design school partner on sustainable dyeing
20/05/2020
The Puma X CSM collection includes a range of footwear, apparel and accessories that implement dyeing technologies such as “Dope Dye” and digital printing, which are said to reduce the use of chemicals and water.
Dope dyeing, according to the sports brand, uses less energy, water and chemicals than conventional wet processing, as one step in the dyeing process is eliminated. Digitally printing logos directly onto fabric also helps reduce waste and chemicals. Depending on the product, water consumption in the collection was reduced by up to 17.4%.
The collection also used cotton from the Better Cotton Initiative, which signifies reduced water usage in producing raw materials.
Marketing efforts also aimed to be more sustainable, including campaign images that were digitally sampled, using technology of Dutch digital fashion house, The Fabricant.
After being tested in this collection, the technologies used will roll out in other parts of Puma’s product range.
