Kemin Industries wants consumers to feel “safe again” outdoors

Textiles auxiliaries developer Garmon has launched a line of finishing products called Safe Wear. Parent group, San Marino-based Kemin Industries, has said these finishes can help apparel companies “address consumers’ demand for safety, given the current health concerns in the world”.

HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 is the most advanced product in the Safe Wear line, Garmon said at the time of the launch. Created by HeiQ, of which Kemin Industries is part owner, the product has a patent-pending antiviral and antibacterial effect on bacteria and viruses, including coronaviruses.

Research shows that viruses and bacteria, such as SARS-CoV, a similar virus to the one that causes covid-19, can remain active on textile surfaces for up to two days, Kemin Industries said. Garments treated with HeiQ Viroblock actively inhibit viruses and kill bacteria upon contact, helping to minimise the potential for re-transmission of pathogens from textiles.

The Safe Wear line also includes Sani-tex and Elam Sani-tex, which are solutions for removing germs and bacteria from garments.

Kemin Industries said the goal of the new range is to allow people to feel “safe and comfortable living their lives outdoors again”.
