Salomon modular shoe evolves over varying terrain

Salomon Running has developed a modular shoe designed to work from the “valley floor via glacier and sharp ridges” to the “highest peaks of the Alps”.

The S/Lab X-Alpine Modular can be worn as a running shoe (as the Sense 8), then, when terrain becomes snowy or more technical, the wearer can add the ‘Alpine Skin’ and secure it together with a zip. A ‘climbing zone’ on the outsole is said to handle a scramble, and the shoe is compatible with manual or semi-auto crampons.
