Austrian manufacturer of machinery for recycling plastic Next Generation Recyclingmaschinen (NGR) has announced that Wolfgang Steinwender took over as its chief executive on May 1. His predecessor, Josef Hochreiter, will move into a development role.

On making the announcement, the company said that, despite the worldwide uncertainties that the covid-19 pandemic has generated, NGR is convinced it can continue to support the plastics industry “during its transition to the circular economy”.

Wolfgang Steinwender joined the company in 2014 and has been heading up its work in the US. He said, on taking up his new appointment: “About 400 million tonnes of plastics are being produced per year worldwide. It is key to put an emphasis on end-of-life plastics. Mechanical recycling conserves resources, protects the environment and improves the CO2 balance. It is the key to sustainability. Therefore, it is crucial to achieve the highest possible quality of recycled materials by using innovative technologies and thus continuously increase the amount of recycled material in end products.”
