Exaggerated heel enables Hoka trainer to manage downhill runs

Hoka One One, the running shoe brand already known for its oversized styles, has released a trainer with an unusually pronounced heel designed for downhill runs.

The heel extension of the TenNine has a “geometry specifically designed to manage impact on the heel, which is often exaggerated on the downhill”, the company said. This is said to enable smoother transition to the midfoot, forefoot and toe-off. Stability in the midsole, from the shoe’s geometry and the brand’s Meta-Rocker technology, should also remain despite the incline.

The shoe also has other features designed to accommodate high mileage, such as a lycra vamp that adjusts the fit to accommodate the foot swelling than can occur over long distances.
