Cotton group issues advice to growers for bringing contractors on farm

15/04/2020

As cotton growers are planning their cotton picking and winter crop planting, Cotton Australia has issued advice on how to bring contractors onto the farm in a way that protects all parties from COVID-19.

The detailed advice includes information on what to do before, during and after a contractor visits, as well as information for dealing with potential cases.

Before a contractor arrives, for example, growers should request all contractors make contact prior to them entering the property, so there is time to consider and manage any risks. They should also request and review the contractor’s COVID-19 management plan, and to know where both new and current workers/contractors have been for the previous 14 days.

The advice contains many other guidelines, including before each shift, obtaining a declaration documenting the employee’s movements and potential exposure to the virus and retain it as a workplace record, and providing alcohol-based cleaning products and instructions for cleaning surfaces and maintaining hygiene.

The above are just a small selection of the guidelines provided. The full list can be found here. The information also comes with a general reminder to follow the health and safety advice of government and health authorities.
