French label Sézane earns FSC certification
Online apparel brand Sézane said it is the first French ready-to-wear brand to have obtained certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which certifies its use of viscose from responsibly managed forests.
The brand has an in-house indicator to monitor the percentage of FSC-certified viscose in its collections, which currently stands at 47 percent. Forthcoming collections are expected to see a higher percentage.
It is asking suppliers to opt for FSC certification for wooden components of jewellery and bag handles, according to Elleore Bomstein, Sézane’s CSR Manager.
FSC certification is among several sustainable aspects of the brand. Sézane also holds the GOTS label and the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and said it has achieved 70 percent eco-responsibility in the procurement of raw materials.
A direct-to-consumer model issues limited-edition collections, which helps to avoid overproduction, while the brand also uses recycled materials and plant-based tanning processes.
