FESI says the crisis will not halt European School Sports Day

14/07/2020

The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) has said it expects schools not just in Europe but around the world to celebrate this year’s European School Sports Day (ESSD), which will take place on September 25.

Last year, 9,000 schools in 44 countries arranged ESSD events that had more than 3 million children moving at least for 120 minutes on the day. Schools on four continents took part.

ESSD will consist of a range of events that can be hosted on school grounds or streamed online to students who are still attending school remotely under national lockdown restrictions.

FESI secretary general, Jérôme Pero, said: “Making children more active is one of our top priorities, and we hope that, despite the current crisis, celebrating ESSD 2020 will demonstrate more than ever the importance of physical activity for children’s well-being and development.”
