Acquisition could open up opportunities in safety apparel for A&E
Specialist sewing thread manufacturer American & Efird (A&E) is to acquire South Carolina-based high-performance yarn producer Charles Craft. The companies have said they expect the acquisition to be complete in early October.
A&E’s managing director in the Americas, Mark Hatton, described Charles Craft as a brand known and respected in the industry for its high-end industrial yarns and quality service to the safety apparel market.
He said the acquisition would lead to an expanded product offering and “enhanced technical expertise”.
Charles Craft’s vice-president for sales, Frank Buie, will join A&E as part of its sales management team. He said becoming part of A&E and its parent group, Elevate Textiles, would give new life to Charles Craft, which his father, Charles Buie, founded 53 years ago.
