New standards for eco textiles in China

21/10/2020

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) recently issued 106 new and revised national standards concerning sustainable textiles, as part of an array of more general public safety measures.

Of particular note is the newly revised national standard regarding technical requirements for environmentally friendly textiles. This aims to increase the speed at which safe (and greener) dyeing and other chemical processes are adopted in the country, as well as promote sustainable production and processing techniques across the textiles industry.

The home textiles sector was singled out, in particular, with the SAMR publishing new guidelines which stressed the need for more eco-friendly, sustainable and low-emission materials to be used.

There was a push for green technological innovation across the industry as a whole.
