NCC takes US Cotton Trust Protocol to China
National Cotton Council of America president and CEO, Dr Gary Adams, addressed a group of Chinese cotton buyers in November during China Cotton Day, a Cotton Council International online event.
In his speech, Dr Adams highlighted the recently launched US Cotton Trust Protocol, which aims to promote industry sustainability, responsibility and transparency, so that buyers can be certain that they have purchased from a cotton supply chain with relatively “lower” social and environmental risks.
Typically, over 80% of US-grown cotton is exported. In recent months, China has become one of the most significant purchasers of US cotton, as part of its “phase one” trade commitment on agricultural imports with Washington.
