Jane Goodall Institute uniforms include advanced insect-repellent
Scientists and rangers at the Jane Goodall Insitute (JGI) in Tanzania are to have new uniforms combining recycled fabric and an advanced insect-repellent finish.
It’s 60 years since Jane Goodall published her research on primates and JGI has commissioned the uniforms as part of its efforts to mark the anniversary.
Designed by specialist workwear provider Logonet, the clothing is made from recycled fabric sourced from Waste2Wear and incorporate Repeltec insect-repellent.
Repeltec is a technology developed by Finland-based Affix Labs. It binds a durable ingredient to textiles to make them actively insect-repellent without killing the insects. This helps protect wearers from diseases spread by biting insects.
The technology reduces the number of insect landings on fabric and disorientates insects that do land, making them less likely to bite. Affix Labs designed the technology as an alternative to the widely used permethrin.
