IRSG to take over running of JD Sports’ Dutch subsidiary

03/06/2021

Retail group JD Sports has agreed a deal for Iberian Sports Retail Group (ISRG) to take over the running of Sports Unlimited Retail.

Both of the companies involved in the deal are part of the JD Sports group. Sports Unlimited Retail is based in the Netherlands and runs stores under the Aktiesport and Perry Sport fascias; it is wholly owned by the group. JD Sports owns just over 50% of ISRG, which is based in Spain.

Because IRSG is more focused on sporting goods than the core JD brand, the group said the management team of IRSG will be better placed “to drive growth and higher returns” for Sports Unlimited Retail in the longer term. However, JD will continue to make strategic decisions regarding the Dutch company’s future.

The parent group said it expected to receive a consideration of €16.5 million from IRSG when the deal completes.
