HKRITA-ISKO deal means Green Machine is commercially viable
Fabric manufacturer ISKO has finalised a licensing agreement with the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textile and Apparel (HKRITA) to use its Green Machine garment-to-garment recycling technology.
Green Machine technology uses a hydrothermal process to separate cotton and polyester in clothing, turning the polyester into new fibres and the cotton into a cellulose powder. The process is gentle, which allows the fibres to retain their properties.
HKRITA has been running one of the machines itself in Hong Kong for several years and a second opened in an H&M store in Stockholm in the autumn of 2020. The institute’s chief executive, Edwin Keh, said at the time of this new announcement: “We are excited to learn that ISKO recognises our innovation and will [bring] this recycling solution into its production. Seeing this project become truly commercially viable is wonderful.”
