Italian textile technology firm Altexa and its North American partner GHS Holdings launched a bio-based waterproof laminate, an addition to the HDry range, at the Outdoor Retailer show in Denver in mid-August.

The new product, HDry b5, has 53% bio-based content and uses no perfluorinated compounds. A non-edible bio-based corn derivative provides the bio-based material. It works using Altexa’s direct 3D lamination method.

Existing HDry compounds are made up of polyurethane ester-based waterproof-breathable membranes combined with a thin polyester knit material.
