Girls’ sport will be FESI’s focus for new health initiative
The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) has pledged its support for a new two-year European Commission initiative called ‘Healthy Lifestyle 4 All’.
At the start of The European Week of Sport, taking place in Bled, Slovenia, FESI president, Neil Narriman, said: “For many years now, FESI and its members have been engaged with public authorities to promote healthy lifestyles through sport and physical activity. We face an unprecedented global health crisis and figures on sport participation remain stagnant.”
He said the federation welcomed the new initiative, and added: “Our objective will be to contribute to overcome some of the barriers that still prevent young girls, in particular, from accessing sport and healthy lifestyles.”
A lack of safe and tailored infrastructure to allow girls to take part in sport in urban areas will be one of the priorities.
