Solar energy project saves yarn producer €1 million

Biella-based yarn manufacturing group Marchi & Fildi is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the launch of a solar energy project.

Solar panels now cover an area of more than 16,500 square-metres at three of the group’s facilities: its production plant in Biella, its dyeing mill at nearby Cerrione and its logistics centre 12 kilometres away at Verrone.

Marchi & Fildi has calculated that, in the course of the ten years since it began to use solar power, it has generated almost 23 million kilowatt-hours of energy, using 7.3 million in its own operations, with the rest feeding into the grid.

Its calculation is that the project has, so far, saved the group €1 million in energy costs.
Commenting on this, chief executive, Massimo Marchi, said: “This has been one of the crucial factors on our path towards making sustainable end products.”
