France’s top-ranked player on tennis’s ATP Tour, Gaël Monfils, has signed a deal to use shoes, clothes and rackets from Artengo, the tennis brand that the Decathlon group launched in 2006.

Artengo director, Cyril Perrin, said the deal, which will run for the next five years, will be more than “just a sponsorship agreement”. He said: “We hope to go much further than that, notably in the area of co-design projects. We want 100% collaboration between Gaël and the team, especially with regard to the future look of our products.”

For his part, Gaël Monfils said he, too, regarded this deal as something beyond the usual sponsorship arrangement. “It’s something I intend to live out 100%,” he said.
