Carbon capture drives club development for TaylorMade

Golf equipment brand TaylorMade has introduced a new range of drivers that use lightweight carbon faces to improve impact and increase ball speed.

This new range, called Stealth, uses technology that TaylorMade calls 60X Carbon Twist Face, making the face of the clubs lighter. This technology comprises 60 layers of carbon sheets strategically arranged to optimise energy transfer.

The brand’s vice-president of product creation, Brian Bazzel, said TaylorMade’s research team had worked out in the mid-2000s that the weight of the face can affect impact efficiency. More specifically, the team found that the lighter the face, the more efficient the impact and the better the ball speed.

“Titanium has been the cornerstone of driver technology for the last 20 years,” TaylorMade said,  “but every material has its limit. Welcome to the Carbonwood age.”
