Biodegradability attracts Pressio to Biofuze yarn

Compression-enhanced athletic clothing brand Pressio has launched a new collection of biodegradable performance apparel.

Launched in 2021, Pressio is the brainchild of New Zealand-based Jamie Hunt, one of the founders of the 2XU brand.

Clothes in the new collection use fabric that biodegrades at advanced rates in a landfill environment, Pressio has said, adding that the pieces will break down in decades rather than centuries.

Tops in the collection are made from Wuxi Paradise Textiles’ Biofuze yarn, made from a combination of biodegradable polyester and biodegradable polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and listed last year in the ISPO Textrends list as one of the best products for spring-summer 2023. Pressio has given the name BioSol to the fabric it has made using this yarn.

A dual filament knit construction helps endow the fabric with high levels of breathability and moisture
management.

Bottoms in the collection use a version called BioSol Power 37.5. It uses embedded, patented natural active particles to aid the removal of moisture vapour when the wearer’s body warms up. If the body is cold, the same active particles use trapped energy to warm the wearer up.

Pressio has said these fabrics will biodegrade rapidly when they reach landfill or a large body of water, returning to nature hundreds of times faster than ordinary polyester.
