Carbios factory announcement only weeks away
Biotech start-up Carbios has shortlisted two major producers of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in its search for a partner to help it scale up its C-ZYME enzymatic recycling technology. The French company claims its technology has the potential to make plastic more sustainable by breaking down used plastic and textile polymers.
It launched a demonstration plant at its headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand in September and went on to announce that it had secured funding to help it accelerate the industrial development of the process by establishing a larger-scale facility somewhere in Europe.
After studying “several potential locations”, it is now carrying on the dialogue with two potential partners but is considering a number of industrial sites that it could, through its partner, use for the new C-ZYME site.
The only extra detail Carbios has released is that these industrial sites are in Europe, including one in France. Chief executive, Emmanuel Ladent, said Carbios expected to announce the chosen location in the coming weeks.
