Sports retailer Decathlon has announced a new initiative with adidas. They are encouraging customers in France to take used sports shoes into Decathlon stores.

Shoes for all types of sports (except footwear with crampons) and from all brands can be part of the programme, which will run from January 24 to February 25. The two companies have said they aim to collect 25,000 pairs over the one-month period.

What they will aim to do next is recycle the material from these shoes into a synthetic surface for a sports facility, which they will build and equip with materials for all types of sport and fitness.

They have said a number of towns in France are in the running to host the new facility.
