The Microfibre Consortium appoints head of research

23/02/2022

Campaign body The Microfibre Consortium (TMC), which works to encourage clothing brands and retailers to take steps to control fibre fragmentation and microfibre pollution, has announced Dr Kelly Sheridan as its head of research.

TMC has said the launch in September of its Microfibre 2030 Commitment, under which signatory companies have committed to work together to tackle microfibre fragmentation, signalled a shift in its approach. As part of that shift, all signatories are now required to undertake material testing for three years and share the data on the group’s portal.

Dr Sheridan, an academic at Northumbria University with a background in forensics, said she would work with the data generated from this testing to identify underlying trends and reach a better understanding of fibre fragmentation. She said this would help steer research in the right direction.
