Japanese apparel company Kamakura Shirts is to use cotton from Australia in a new line it will call Premium Pure White Shirts.

It will import cotton from Australian growers through industry representative body Cotton Australia, taking advantage of a trade agreement, the the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement, that has come into force between the two countries.

Kamakura said cotton from Australia was ideal for the collection because the fibres were relatively free from contaminants, making it possible for it to minimise its use of chemicals in the dyeing phase. It said customers would appreciate the natural whiteness of the new shirts.
