Production under way at New Balance Massachusetts shoe factory
Boston-based athletic brand New Balance has opened a new sports footwear factory in Methuen, Massachusetts.
It said the new factory signalled a strong commitment to manufacturing in the US and involved a significant investment in innovation and machinery, combined with the integration of lean manufacturing processes to enable what it called “a responsive US-made supply network”.
Chief executive, Joe Preston, said: “Manufacturing has always been an important part of our company culture. Our associates have proved that high-quality athletic footwear can be produced in the US.”
The factory employs more than 90 people and is already producing the brand’s MADE 990v5 running shoe, with plans to more than double the current workforce and production capabilities by the end of 2022.
