Toray apologises for resin certification mislabelling

Polymers group Toray has issued an apology for incorrectly labelling some of its resin products as having been certified by specialist US-based certification body UL.

On initially announcing the incorrect certification issues at the end of January, Toray immediately set up an expert committee to investigate. This committee has now delivered its report.

Toray said this matter had “significantly damaged the company’s reputation” and said it was considering “strict disciplinary measures” for employees involved.

It said it was unaware of any major issues among its customers from using the resin materials concerned but added that it was still checking to see if any problems had arisen.

It outlined a series of internal measures aimed at preventing a recurrence and said it was determined “to restore complete confidence in its integrity”.
