Change of ownership for Isbjörn

The parent company of specialist children’s outdoor clothing brand Isbjörn, Nordic Kidswear, has a new owner.

Fashion e-commerce group Online Brands Nordic has agreed to pay up to $7.8 million for Nordic Kidswear, including Isbjörn, with payments spread over several years and depending to some extent on performance.

Isbjörn launched in 2005, the brainchild of Maria Frykman and Camilla Schmidt. It has built up a reputation for making collections of durable and sustainable outdoor clothing and accessories for children and has a current annual turnover of close to $4 million, having grown its revenues by 15% in the last year.

Maria Frykman will continue as chief executive of Isbjörn. She said she looked forward to continuing the brand’s mission of making “the most sustainable and long-lasting outdoor clothing for children and teenagers” with Online Brands Nordic.

She described the brand’s new owner as a financially strong and digitally experienced operator and said this made her optimistic about developing Isbjörn further into “a leading global player within our sector”.

The change in ownership can also help Isbjörn take its product offering and sustainability strategy “to the next level”, Ms Frykman said, “securing the ambitious goals we have set for the company”.

For his part, the chief executive of Online Brands Nordic, Magnus Skoglund, said: “Isbjörn is at the forefront of using the most sustainable materials and production processes and we look forward to working closely with the team to develop and grow the brand.”
