Yarn from used textiles is part of Techtera circular economy programme

22/04/2022

Among the initiatives it is working on at the moment, French technical textiles cluster Techtera recently highlighted a project called AURAreFIL.

The project’s aim is to produce materials from used textiles and shoes. It wants these materials to meet market needs in terms of performance and affordability.

It will involve producing a 100% recycled polyester yarn in a closed loop in Techtera’s home region, Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. A start-up called Recyc’Elit will be a partner for this project and will adapt a low-carbon depolymerisation system it has developed for the chemical recycling of plastics to transform used textiles back into yarn.

This project is part of a wider programme that Techtera calls the Circular Economy Roadmap.
