Boots from Baffin to go to the needy

Outdoor footwear brand Baffin is to donate 1,300 pairs of cold-weather boots to needy people across North America. The boots are inspired by the brand’s Hunter and Little Hunter styles.

Baffin’s success in recycling material from imperfect samples at its factory in Stoney Creek, Ontario, has allowed it to have between 5% and 10% recycled materials in its products. It decided that it could create a product with even more recycled content that it could give away to those in need and the new initiative, the Citizenship Boot Project, was born.

Long-term partners Felix Compounds and Aurora Plastics donated 1,000 kilos of virgin materials to the programme, making possible a production run of 1,300 pairs, with 50% of the material in each pair coming from in-house produced regrind material.

“We understand the importance of having the proper footwear to conquer the cold and are acutely aware that many people living in cold climates do not have the means to properly outfit themselves to be protected from the elements,” Baffin said. “We are thrilled to be able to use our expertise in footwear technology and the production of recycled materials to provide those in need with the warmth they deserve.”
