‘Tough comparison’ affects Footlocker’s Q1 growth

Sports footwear retail group Footlocker has reported sales revenues of just under $2.2 billion for the first quarter of 2022. This figure is 1% up on the group’s revenues for the same quarter last year.

Footlocker said that, excluding the effect of foreign exchange rate fluctuations, the increase would have been 3%.

Chief executive, Richard Johnson, said he thought Footlocker had got off to a strong start for the year with a solid quarter against “the tough comparisons of fiscal stimulus and historically-low promotions” that contributed to strong results in the same quarter last year.

“Our progress in broadening and enriching our assortment continues,” Mr Johnson said, “as we continue to meet our customers’ demand for choice.”
