Partners announce extra investment in Woodspin project
Woodspin partners Spinnova and Suzano have announced that they are increasing their capital investment budget for the joint-venture, which will make textile fibre from cellulose derived from wood pulp.
Construction of a first commercial-scale Woodspin factory is under way at Jyväskylä in central Finland and is on track for completion by the end of this year, but the two partners have decided to increase their investment in the project to €31 million, about €9 million more than the original budget.
They said the extra money would enhance Woodspin’s sustainability and research and development capabilities and account for cost inflation.
Spinnova is the Finnish developer of a technique, based on fibre suspension flows, to make textile fibres from micro-fibrillated cellulose from paper-grade wood pulp. The technique involves mechanically pulping the fibres and controlling the flow in such a way as to form a yarn without using any complex chemical processes.
Suzano is a Brazil-based pulp producer.
