US Open success brings Babolat tribute for Carlos Alcaraz
Racket manufacturer Babolat has paid tribute to the new US Open champion and new number-one ranked player in world tennis, Carlos Alcaraz.
On winning his first grand slam in New York on September 11, Carlos Alcaraz used Babolat Pure Aero rackets.
On celebrating this triumph, Babolat said comparisons with another of its star athletes, Rafael Nadal, were inevitable. Both players are Spanish and both have now achieved the remarkable feat of winning a Grand Slam championship at the age of 19.
Rafael Nadal was 19 and two days when he won the first of his 14 Roland Garros titles, and the first of 22 Grand Slams in all, in 2005; Carlos Alcaraz was older, at 19 and 129 days when he lifted the trophy in New York. However, it took Rafael Nadal until the age of 22 to reach number one in the world rankings, whereas this accolade was an added instant bonus for the new US Open champion.
Babolat picked Carlos Alcaraz out at a young age as a potential future star of the sport, signing its first contract to supply him with rackets when he was just ten years old.
