AI can help advance textiles sustainability, Rieter says
Swiss textile machinery group Rieter and the charitable organisation set up in the name of its founder, the Johann Jacob Rieter Foundation, are to sponsor a new professorship in industrial artificial intelligence (AI) at the School of Engineering at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences.
The professorship will be dedicated to teaching and research in the field of industrial applications of AI and the first holder of the position will be announced later this year. It will focus, in particular, on the connection between machine-learning methods and knowledge-based systems and production and service, Rieter said.
Chief executive, Dr Norbert Klapper, commented: “The use of AI will make a significant contribution to automation and process optimisation, and thereby advance sustainability in the textile industry.”
Johann Jacob Rieter founded the company in 1795. The foundation was established in his name in 1963.
