Apparel industry to feature at Rwanda circular economy event

This year, for the first time, the annual World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) will take place in Africa, with Rwandan capital Kigali as the host city. Delegates will also be able to follow the sessions online. The event takes place from December 6-8.

WCEF is an initiative of the Finnish government and Finnish innovation fund Sitra. The first WCEF took place in 2017 and sought from the outset to showcase solutions and learnings from around the world.

A local partner, African Studios, will set up discussion events in several cities across Africa as part of the Kigali forum. It will facilitate discussions around circularity, while offering participants the opportunity to exhibit solutions and local projects.

“The forum will explore major themes relevant to Africa’s development in which circularity could play a big role,” Sitra said, “including climate and nature, youth, infrastructure, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as trade and value chains.”
It confirmed to sportstextiles that one of the sessions at the event will address the clothing industry specifically.
