Cotton Australia relaunches employment initiative
Industry body Cotton Australia is to relaunch an online service, Cotton Jobs Australia, that it introduced last year to help solve what it has called a “chronic shortage of farm labour”.
It received a grant from Australia’s department of agriculture and fisheries and help from the government of Queensland to set the service up last year and now, as growers plan for the 2023 cotton crop, it has said it will relaunch it “with enhancements”.
These enhancements will aim to make the service more user-friendly and make it easier for cotton growers to connect with prospective employees.
Chief executive, Adam Kay, said: “We know there are other job websites, but our approach directly links the employer to workers interested in cotton. We are targeting the cotton season and pitching to seasonal and casual workers, but there are also permanent jobs on the site and more will be advertised in the coming weeks.”
Mr Kay added that Australia’s cotton growers are expecting a large crop this season and that jobs on cotton farms promise “to be rewarding and a lot of fun”.
