Polymer innovations from Toray have won an award from Japan’s Society of Polymer Science.

One of the award-winning ideas was designing an anti-thrombogenic polymer to prevent blood from coagulating. Toray did this based on a hypothesis that focused on the mobility of adsorbed water interacting with polymers.

The other advance was to commercialise artificial kidneys with enhanced anti-thrombogenicity that employs this technology, helping improve the quality of life of patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
