Discounting on sneakers saves US consumers from higher price increases
A new study compiled by technology provider Centric Software has found that the average price of athletic shoes in the US has gone up by more than 12% since the start of the 2020s.
The company runs a platform called Centric Pricing, which has used data from competitor benchmarking, pricing intelligence and trend forecasting to compile the Sneaker Market Index.
March data from the index shows that the average price US consumers are paying for athletic footwear is now $126.89 per pair. This is 12.3% more than the price at the start of the decade.
According to Centric, the increase would be even greater if it weren’t for discounting. It said that over the last two quarters, the average discount per pair is up by more than 40% year on year.
