Brand makes careful yarn choice for launch collection

A Maine-based brand in the cycling and outdoor market, Pinebury, has committed at its launch to making its technical apparel in the US with high levels of natural fibre content.

It describes its products as being inspired by a love of four-season outdoor pursuits and activities that are natural to Maine coastlines, mountains and trails.

Pinebury has used Nuyarn merino wool in cycling apparel. The yarn uses superfine merino wool with a nylon filament, leading to fabric that the brand describes as ultra-lightweight and durable. It has calculated Nuyarn merino to be five times faster-drying, almost nine times more durable and 85% more stretchy than conventional ring- or core-spun merino.

New Zealand-based TMC (The Merino Company) acquired Nuyarn in 2013 and began using its specialised technology to create lightweight, durable, stretchy fabrics.

“Pinebury is dedicated to continuous innovation while staying true to the timeless relationship of outdoor sport and Maine’s rich sporting heritage,” said the brand’s founder, Kyle Rancourt. “For our initial launch collection, Nuyarn emerged as the ideal natural materials partner. The potential of this technology is boundless and we are merely scratching the surface of what it can achieve. This is just the beginning for us.”
