Launch of new functional fabric for sportswear from Teijin

Fibre developer Teijin Frontier has launched a new functional fabric for sportswear, calling the product Solotex Liberte. It is partly made from plant-derived raw materials.
It features a span-like texture and offers “exceptional stretchability”, according to Teijin. Other properties it highlighted on launching the product were natural swelling and high levels of colourability and lustre.
Its construction uses polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) polymer as the core yarn and low-shrinkage PTT monocomponent as the sheath yarn. After the core and sheath yarns are mixed using fibre processing technology, they are knitted using high-density knitting equipment.
Teijin said this “side-by-side composite yarn” achieves high stretchability by laminating two types of polymers with different heat shrinkability characteristics to form a coil-like crimp structure.
It added that apparel made from Solotex Liberte will provide comfort thanks to its soft stretch, light weight, water absorption and quick drying properties.
