Climate-neutral garment sector is the aim for Bangladesh

The chief executive of clothing group H&M, Helena Helmersson, travelled to Bangladesh recently and held discussions with the country’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, and minister for foreign affairs, Shahriar Alam. Discussions centred on the development of the garment industry in Bangladesh.
During the visit, Ms Helmersson, on behalf of H&M, signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which the Swedish group described as “a partnership towards a circular and climate-neutral garment sector in Bangladesh”.
“We need to work together to overcome industry-wide challenges,” Helena Helmersson said. “By joining forces, we can put the topic of circularity and decarbonisation on top of the industry agenda.”
