Support from Aku for emerging sport
Footwear brand Aku is stepping up its support of an emerging sport called Hike&Fly.
This activity combines hiking in mountain areas with paragliding. Athletes ascend to high ground by hiking and paraglide back down. Hike&Fly competition involves moving to and from a series of pre-arranged points as quickly as possible.
Aku has said it views this sport as “totally sustainable and environmentally friendly”. To intensify its support of the sport, the Veneto-based footwear brand will be an official sponsor of the PreAlpiTour Race 2023 competition, creating its own team of athletes to take part.
In this competition, athletes will have four days in which to walk or fly to predetermined turnpoints, located in alpine huts or on high-altitude Alpine pastures. On arrival, each athlete must sign their own photograph on a board and move on to the next location.
The company has highlighted its Flyrock GTX fast hiking shoe for Hike&Fly, arguing that the product offers the traction, protection and high cushioning participants require.
