Product longevity is 66°North’s top priority

Icelandic outdoor brand 66°North has said it prioritises longevity when it comes to choosing fibres and fabrics for its products.

It said its design approach is to choose durable materials and to make garments that last, adding that this allows it to provide better service to its customers and to minimise harm to the environment.

Choosing a garment that can be worn for a decade or more fulfils than ambition, it explained, whereas alternatives that suppliers may claim are more sustainable might produce garments that break down after two or three years.

“This creates waste and drives consumption,” 66°North said.

It insisted it was open to innovation, but wanted its partners to present it with options “that deliver high performance and the least impact”.
