Inventor of the Shortney scores mountain hat-trick

Ultra-marathon runner Courtney Dauwalter, whose penchant for competing in loose-fitting clothing has sparked a trend, has completed an unprecedented hat-trick.

Ms Dauwalter won the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) race at the start of September, adding this to wins earlier in the season at Western States 100 and Hardrock 100 events. She is the first athlete to win all-three mountain races in the same calendar year.

She crossed the UTMB finishing line in Chamonix on September 2, clocking a winning time of 23 hours, 29 minutes and 14 seconds for her run around the Mont Blanc Massif. She was wearing her trademark, colorful, baggy shorts and an equally baggy bright yellow jersey.

Sports apparel brand Salomon now markets this clothing in a collection called Shortney. We covered the rise of Shortney apparel, documenting Courtney Dauwalter’s surprise at the garments’ popularity, in a recent article in WSA.
