Recycled materials are Sympatex’s focus for A+A
Membrane technology developer Sympatex will present a series of recyclable product innovations at the A+A exhibition, which takes place in Dusseldorf from October 24-27.
Products on display at the event will include Caura Sherpa, a new laminate concept that, Sympatex has said, combines the qualities of a classic quilted jacket with those of a membrane jacket. The material is made entirely from recycled fibres and is also recyclable itself.
Head of product management for corporate clothing and workwear at Sympatex, Petra Klattenhoff, said she viewed the new product as a successor to classic softshells, although with, she claimed, better insulation, lighter weights and greater comfort.
For the footwear market, the company will also have on display its Sorrento non-woven material, a laminate that is certified for use in work shoes and boots. It said it had been able to reduce the CO2 emissions associated with the production of the laminate by eliminating the use of polyurethane foam in its construction. It added that it had also achieved a reduction of 15% in water consumption.
It has replaced the polyurethane layer with a non-woven made from 100% recycled polyester.
