FESI welcomes Council of Europe calls for fairness for women in sport
International organisation the Council of Europe has published the conclusions of its study of women’s participation in sport.
The Strasbourg-based body, which has the role of promoting policies that will uphold human rights and fairness, has called on member states of the European Union to take steps to ensure that “everyone has equal access to, and can fully participate in, sports at all levels without gender-based discrimination”.
One of the measures it has called for is that women and girls participating in sports should have access to “the appropriate equipment and attire to ensure their safe participation”.
In response, the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) said it welcomed the Council’s calls.
It said: “As an organisation, we stand ready to collaborate with stakeholders, governments, and sports bodies to transform these commitments into tangible actions.”
