Campaign group launches list of demands for brands
London-based campaign group Fashion Revolution has published a list of demands aimed at major fashion brands and policymakers. It issued the list at the start of the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.
It insisted that fashion brands should disclose the fibre mix in the clothes they sell and say if they have a plan in place to phase out synthetic fibres made from fossil fuels.
“The use of synthetic fibres made from fossil fuel is skyrocketing,” Fashion Revolution said. “Brands should disclose how they plan to cut ties with fossil fuels in their fibres.”
It also said brands should disclose their annual production volumes to help address excessive volume outputs and over-consumption.
Another of its demands was that brands should disclose how much they pay their suppliers for garments and publish the rates of pay of the workers who make the garments. “Fashion brands have a responsibility to pay suppliers prices that enable living wages for workers,” it said.
