Approval for Poland deal for JD Sports

18/01/2024

Athletic apparel and footwear retail group JD Sports has said an acquisition it announced in August has only concluded now, following approval from the competition authorities in the European Union.

In 2021, it acquired a 60% stake in MIG, a Poland-based retail group with more than 400 stores in 13 European countries. Then, in August 2023, JD Sports announced that it had reached agreement to acquire the remaining 40% of MIG, becoming the sole owner of the group.

It has now completed the deal following a decision from the European Commission that the transaction is “compatible with the internal market”.

It said this would simplify its European operations and give it the opportunity to accelerate the roll-out of the JD brand in central and eastern Europe.
