Important changes to the International Woolmark Prize

The Woolmark Company, which promotes Australian wool in global markets, has announced a series of changes to its International Woolmark Prize competition for “rising fashion talent”.

It said the competition was evolving “to enhance its focus on nurturing talent to shape the future of fashion”. Launched in 1953, the programme is aimed at enhancing emerging designers’ knowledge of wool and encouraging their use of the fibre in their collections.

Applications for the 2025 edition of the International Woolmark Prize opened on April 16 and will remain open until June 30. The Woolmark Company has announced that, now, the prize will run over a two-year programme to provide designers with “more time to focus on innovation”. It said it wanted to encourage designers to adopt a philosophy of test-trial-learn-improve.

It said the judging criteria will have “an enhanced focus” on sustainability and innovation.

Another important change is that the prize fund has increased and the winner will receive Australian $300,000.
