Outdoor apparel makes its mark as business attire in China

A director of apparel manufacturing group Cheng Kung Garments (CKG), Vincent Djen, has said the popularity in China of outdoor and sports activities is growing.

In recent comments on social media, Mr Djen said an increase in demand had brought many well known outdoor brands to the Chinese market. He said these brands had opened stores in prominent shopping malls in Shanghai and in other tier-one cities.

Now, though, he pointed out that clothing from outdoor brands, including Arc’teryx and Descente, has also become popular as “casual business attire” in the workplace in China.

This growth has prompted CKG to begin production of merino wool baselayers and T-shirts for its clients.
